Aims and Scope
Aims:
The journal aims to serve as an international, peer-reviewed scholarly platform for publishing original research, theoretical and applied studies, and systematic reviews in the field of archaeology and its interdisciplinary studies, with a special focus on the Emirate of Sharjah and the Arabian Peninsula within their regional and global contexts.
The journal also seeks to support rigorous scholarly research, enhance international academic dialogue, and connect local studies with global cultural and civilizational contexts, in accordance with the standards adopted by international indexing systems.
Scope and Publishing Themes:
The journal accepts research within the following thematic areas:
- Prehistoric Archaeology and Early Societies: Studies of early human communities, settlement patterns, early economies, environmental adaptation, and technological development of tools and materials.
- Stone Age Archaeology: Paleolithic, Mesolithic, and Neolithic periods; typological and technological analysis of stone tools; human behavior and ancient environments.
- Classical and Roman Archaeology in the Arabian Peninsula: Urban centers and trade networks, manifestations of cultural influence and interaction, material culture and the arts.
- Islamic Archaeology: Islamic cities and settlements, architecture, arts, production and exchange systems, urban landscapes and economy in Islamic periods.
- Material Culture Studies: Historic architecture, inscriptions and writings, pottery, tools, and archaeological artifacts with functional and technological analysis.
- Conservation and Restoration Sciences: Preservation and restoration of sites and artifacts, studies of construction materials and finds, management of environmental risks, and the impact of climate change on cultural heritage.
- Archaeological Site Management: Planning and sustainable management of sites, cultural tourism and visitor management, community engagement in the protection of cultural heritage.
- Digital Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Technologies: Digital documentation and 3D surveying, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing, extended reality and virtual museums, artificial intelligence in archaeological analysis and archiving.
- Historical, Civilizational, and Anthropological Studies: Development of societies in the Arabian Peninsula, cultural identity and lifestyles, social and economic transformations across periods.
- Underwater Heritage: Including maritime archaeological sites, shipwrecks, ancient ports, submerged structures, and methods for documenting and protecting them according to international standards.
- Comparative Civilization Studies: Interactions between the Arabian Peninsula, Egypt, Mesopotamia, the Indus Valley, the Levant, and East Africa; trade and migration networks, and the transfer of ideas and technologies.
- Cultural Legislation and Policy: National and international laws for heritage protection, UNESCO conventions and international charters, and policies for conservation and cultural management.
