Twenty years of discoveries for the Department of Ancient History, international scientific bodies and the Spanish archaeological team in Sharjah (United Arab Emirates).
“Sargon, the king, laid in the port of Akkad the ships of Meloukha, Dilmun, and the ships of Majan.”
In the seventies and eighties of the twentieth century, our scientific teams, for the sake of humanity’s history, began to save the distant past of the Arabian Peninsula. The ancient texts of Mesopotamia seem to refer to some places when they evoked the foreign “land of Majan” with its black ships, wealth and people.
From the mid-1990s until today, research focused on the Oman Peninsula has finally revealed the life, environment and ancient history of Majan. In the central region of that country, where the Emirate of Sharjah is currently located, many important archaeological discoveries took place.
This exhibition works to reveal the recovered image of a forgotten era, thanks to the efforts of many international archaeological teams, the Sharjah Archaeology Authority (SAA) in the Emirate of Sharjah, and the Spanish archaeological team at Autonoma University in Madrid.
