Sharjah Archaeology Authority Launches the “Archaeological Geographic Information System” at GITEX Global 2024

Sharjah, October 14, 2024 – The Sharjah Archaeology Authority (SAA) has launched the “Archaeological Geographic Information System” during its participation at the “GITEX Global 2024” exhibition, as part of Sharjah Government’s platform at the Dubai World Trade Centre under the slogan “Towards a Sustainable Digital Future” in present of Sheikh Saud bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Higher Committee of the Sharjah Government Pavilion at GITEX Global and Director-General of the Sharjah Digital Department, H.E. Eisa Yousif, Director General of the Sharjah Archaeology Authority (SAA), and Dr Saeed Abdullah bin Yarouf Al Naqbi, Director of Support Services Department at SAA. This system represents one of the pioneering initiatives aimed at preserving the cultural heritage of the Emirate of Sharjah using the latest advanced technologies.

Developing Innovative Strategies to Raise Global Awareness About the Importance of Protecting Human Heritage and Understanding Sharjah’s History and Cultural Dimensions

H.E. Eisa Yousif, Director General of the Sharjah Archaeology Authority (SAA), emphasized that the significant attention Sharjah dedicates to its cultural heritage is a clear reflection of the wise vision and insightful directives of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, who stands as the primary supporter of efforts to preserve archaeological heritage. Cultural heritage is considered an integral part of the UAE’s identity, and a lasting source of pride and inspiration for both current and future generations. Through the “Archaeological Geographic Information System,” Sharjah aims to realize its ambitious vision of safeguarding its rich heritage and enhancing its leadership not only locally but also regionally and internationally, positioning itself as a leading entity in the field of cultural heritage preservation through the use of advanced technology.

H.E. Eisa Yousif, further explained that this ambitious project reflects the SAA’s continuous commitment to developing innovative strategies that contribute to raising global awareness of the importance of protecting human heritage and understanding the Sharjah’s history and its cultural dimensions. The system enhances opportunities for collaboration and integration between the cultural sector and infrastructure institutions to exchange expertise and enrich knowledge. It serves as an effective platform that enables researchers and academics to access accurate and comprehensive information about archaeological sites, paving the way for in-depth archaeological studies that shed light on the rich history of the Emirate of Sharjah.
