The fort was discovered in 1990. The French expedition conducted five campaigns of excavations until 1999. The fort was bisected by the Al Dhaid/Al Madam main road and hid the central part of the building under the road and its embankment. Thanks to his highness, Sheikh Dr sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi – the Ruler of sharjah , ordered a detour to the road , thus enabling a full excavation of the building.
